Renting venues, business permits and the starting venue

Your starting venue comes with the story and pays no rent. Every other venue you run is rented, and renting one costs a business permit, the value of the furniture already inside, and a daily rent.1,2,3,4,10,11,12,17,18

Your starting venue

The starting venue is the only one the story gives you.10,11

You own it from day one: it needs no business permit and pays no rent, even though the game data lists a rent for it.1,2,3,10,12,17,18

What renting takes

13 venues are offered for rent. To start renting one you need:2,3,4,12

  • the business permit that venue asks for, in your inventory, and
  • at least as much money as the furniture already inside the venue is worth. Money exactly equal to that value is enough.

Renting charges the furniture value once, uses up one permit, and starts the daily rent.

Daily rent for the venues for rent runs from 75 to 500. Each venue's page in the venue wiki lists its rent.1,13,17,18

Business permits

There are four business permits, levels 1 to 4. Each venue for rent needs one of them.2,3,12

Permits come from two places: the level 5 reward of a venue for rent, and story events. By permit level:2,3,5,6,12,14,15,16

11 of the 13 venues for rent give a permit when you level them to 5. The reward goes to the venue's owner, so it comes from venues you rent.5,6,12,14,15,16

The game files have 8 story events that give a permit. Not all of them may be reachable in one playthrough.

Vendors don't sell permits, and a new game starts without one, so your first permit comes from the story.

Each venue's page in the venue wiki names the permit it needs and the rewards that give it.

Each venue has a menu, table and staff limit that depends on its level. Dishes and drinks share the menu limit.7,8,14

Levels

A venue levels up when its total meals served reaches the next level's target. Levels 4 and 5 also need a review average of at least 4.0 and 4.5 stars over the newest 20 reviews. Each level-up of your venue unlocks a recipe, and level 5 can also give an item. Venues don't lose levels in the current version. The full table is on How review stars are calculated.5,14,19

Higher levels also raise the price cap: see Price caps by venue level.9
