Privacy policy

Effective 5 October 2026

Nivalis Nights Companion (nivalis.averatec.studio) is an unofficial fan project run by one person, averatec0773 ("we" on this page). This page describes what the website does with information about you. Questions and requests go to contact@averatec.studio.

In short

  • Your save file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
  • There are no accounts and no ads, and the site sets no cookies. We do not sell or share data.
  • Page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
  • Vercel, the site's host, logs requests to the site, like any web host.
  • If you send feedback, it is stored as an issue in a private GitHub repository.

Your save file

When you load a .sav file, the site reads it with JavaScript in your browser. The file is not uploaded or sent anywhere. It stays in the page's memory until you close the save, reload or leave the page.

Some choices you make on My Save pages and in the Planner are kept in your browser's storage (next section): the venue you picked and, if you use these buttons, a plan copied from one of your venues and your list of unlocked recipes. They stay on your device.

Browser storage

The site sets no cookies. It keeps a few settings in your browser's localStorage so they are still there next time. They never leave your device and we cannot see them. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.

KeyWhat it keeps
ncw.langThe site language you chose.
ncw.wikiRecentThe last 24 wiki and quest pages you opened (address, name and section), for Recently viewed on the wiki overview.
ncw.peopleFilterThe filter you picked on the People list.
ncw.dlgViewWhether quest dialogue opens as a flowchart or a list.
ncw.venueThe venue you picked on My Save pages.
ncw.strategyThe goal you picked on Menu & prices (profit or stars).
ncw.menuSize_<venue>The menu size you set for each venue.
ncw.plannerScenarioYour current plan in the Planner, including a plan copied from one of your venues.
ncw.plannerUnlockedWhich recipes the Planner counts as unlocked, including your own list if you copied it from your save.
ncw.plannerTab, ncw.plannerStrategy, ncw.plannerApplyPartsThe Planner tab, goal and apply options you used last.

One more key goes into sessionStorage, which the browser clears when you close the tab: ncStaleReload: followed by a page address. It holds the time that page reloaded itself after a site update, so it does not reload more than once a minute.

Page view statistics

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. Its script loads from this site's own address (/_vercel/insights/script.js), not from another server, and it sets no cookies. According to Vercel, each page view records the time, the page address with some of its query parameters, the referring page, an approximate location (country, region, city), and the browser, operating system and device type. Visitors are told apart by a hash of the request, which is discarded after 24 hours. We see only totals, such as views per page or per country. Details: Vercel Web Analytics privacy.

Hosting and request logs

The site and its feedback function run on Vercel. When your browser requests a page, Vercel receives your IP address, your browser's user agent and the address you asked for, and keeps logs of these requests to run and protect its service. We do not use these logs to track visitors. See Vercel's privacy policy.

Feedback form

The feedback form is the only place where the site asks you for information, and sending it is up to you.

When you submit it, your browser sends this to the site's own server function (/api/feedback/):

  • the category, the title and the fields you filled in;
  • the address of the page, without its query string or anything after #;
  • page references, filled in automatically on pages that cite sources;
  • the site language and version;
  • the contact you added, if any (it is optional).

The function turns this into an issue in a private GitHub repository that only the maintainer can read. Nothing else is attached: the form has no file upload, and screenshot links are saved as text and never opened by the server. A hidden field that people leave empty catches spam bots. To limit abuse, the function keeps a hash of your IP address in memory for about one minute. The hash is not written into the issue or kept anywhere else.

We use your contact only to answer about your report. Issues stay in the repository until they are deleted: write to contact@averatec.studio with the report number and we delete yours. GitHub stores the issues, see GitHub's privacy statement.

What the site does not do

  • No accounts and no sign-in.
  • No cookies set by the site, and no ads.
  • No selling or renting of your data, and no sharing it for marketing.
  • No scripts, fonts or images from other servers. Fonts are self-hosted.
  • The Ko-fi and Afdian links open those sites, where their own privacy policies apply.

Where data is processed

Vercel and GitHub are based in the United States. Request logs, page view statistics and feedback issues may be processed in the United States and in other countries where they run servers.

Your requests

You can ask for a copy of the feedback you sent, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask anything about this policy: write to contact@averatec.studio, with the report number or title so we can find it. Page view statistics and request logs are not tied to a name, so we cannot pick out one visitor's entries. Browser storage stays on your device; clear it in your browser settings.

Children

The site is a game reference for a general audience and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child sent contact details through the feedback form, write to contact@averatec.studio and we will delete them.

Desktop app

This policy covers the website. The Nivalis Nights Companion desktop app is a separate program that runs on your own computer and is not covered here.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.

Support the site

Nivalis Nights Companion is a hobby project, built and maintained in my spare time. If it saved you some trial and error or helped you work out a strategy of your own, any support is much appreciated. It goes into keeping the data current after each game update and into new features.
